The subsequent section characterizes the Southern European region and specific selected countries, namely Greece, Spain, and Italy. The focus is primarily on their structural problems that may be linked to the growth of populism. In the main part of the work, the impacts of the economic crisis on the selected states are analyzed, initially from an economic and social perspective and subsequently from a political standpoint. The concluding section of the work zooms in on the rise of populism in the selected states. The Portrayal of the Greek Economic Crisis in Czech Media
Mrňáková, Nicole ; Tsivos, Konstantinos (advisor) ; Klimeš, David (referee)
This thesis deals with the way how Czech newspaper reported about Greek debt crisis and which frames were used to illustrate Greece. In the theoretical part the history of Greece is described, since independence till the debt crisis. The historical context captures difficult times of Greek history which contributed to the spiral of dept crisis lasting from 2010 to 2018. In the following part some of the important concepts concerning agenda setting, gatekeeping and frame analysis are compared. Some of the important foreign studies concerning frame theory and even framing of the Greek debt crisis in Czech media are depicted. The methodology of the thesis is formed by a qualitative analysis of the articles from two peaks of the crisis - the first half of 2010 and the first half of 2015. In the first period the frames used by Czech media were predominantly following the German point of view and the point of view of the European creditors. Journalists only rarely reflected the real life of the Greeks which was quite different from the used stereotypes. The second period was marked by the world affairs like the immigration crisis or invasion to Ucraine and the sanctions against Russia. In many cases the framing of the crisis concentrated on the character of the Greek nation and its moral judgement as a...
A comparison of tax systems of the Czech Republic and the Hellenic Republic
Čižík, Vojtěch ; Boháč, Radim (advisor) ; Novotný, Petr (referee)
The Comparison of the Tax Systems in the Czech Republic and Greece (the Hellenic Republic) Abstract This thesis is primarily trying to compare tax systems between Greece and the Czech Republic as two small and open economies with cca the same level of population that are members of the EU and the most significant international organizations at the same time. Just the membership in the EU very strongly influences the national form of taxes and their structure, too. Its secondary goal concerns the author's opinion of substantial legal enactment of taxes of both states. First it defines, with certain terminology problems across three languages, the term of tax as an obligatory payment, in legal forms strictly stated as a tax, and explains its several theoretical aspects in term of demanded features and structural elements and then it specifies the term of tax system (framework) and focuses on it and a variety of effects on its formation. Probably the only non-legal part including the appendix 2 relates to an economic confrontation of the Czech and Greek tax system. In the practical part it gradually describes a comparison of tax law sources, constitutional fundamentals of taxes, their fiscal assignment and a tax international dimension of both countries, too. A very short historical context i salso mentioned...

Development of endemic freshwater ichthyofauna of Greece
Kyralová, Eva ; Vukićová, Jasna (advisor) ; Švátora, Miroslav (referee)
The Balkans is one of the hot spots of biodiversity, and is known for a high diversity and endemism of freshwater fishes. The development of Greece was significantly affected by the climatic, geologic and orogenetic events resulting in high concentration of freshwater fish endemism. Some of the important historical events were the emergence of land bridges during the early Oligocene and Miocene, through which freshwater fishes dispersed to the Balkans from Asia and subsequently to Africa, the freshwater phase of the Paratethys sea or Alpine orogeny, which began 65 million years ago, and which gradually formed the Greek mountain systems, leading to a long-term isolation of local freshwater ichthyofauna and subsequent speciation. Other major events include Messinian salinity crisis and Pleistocene climate oscillations. Most of the freshwater fish families occurring in Greece most probably originated in the Southeast Asia, from where they colonized the Balkans by several routes. These colonizations took place repeatedly at different times and by different routes. The dispersion of freshwater fishes from Asia to Europe through Siberia started before the uplift of the Ural Mountains about 33 million years ago and continued until Pliocene. Another important colonization route from Asia was via the...
